Overview

Inside The Book

The absence of my father, often lost in his battles with drink, introduced me to hunger's sharp pangs and the profound kindness of strangers. A simple meal shared by my father's colleague during those lean times taught me the enduring value of empathy over extravagance.

My journey eventually took me to the United States, where I continued my mission in the classrooms of inner-city schools. There, I found that my past had prepared me well for the ever-present need to adapt and thrive amidst change. In this new educational landscape, the lessons of my youth in Kenya came full circle, reinforcing that adaptability is a survival skill and the essence of growth and success.

As I embarked on this new path, the mantra that had carried me through the years echoed louder than ever: "Don't stay down." It was a call to action, to rise not just in personal ambition but in collective contribution, to forge a way forward that honored the delicate balance between giving and sustaining, community and individuality.

My proposition is straightforward: to extend the blueprint for financial freedom through cash value insurance, a domain traditionally held by the affluent. I aim to democratize this strategy, inviting others to partake in the wealth-building knowledge that has long been gated away. This effort leans on the power of my story to inspire and mobilize potential clients and partners to recognize that financial empowerment is within their grasp.

In Do Not Stay Down, You Will Learn

Our family's tapestry was a mosaic of movement, with my father's quest for prosperity leading us across East Africa. Yet, Nairobi's vibrant heartbeat introduced me to the transformative power of education. There, in those bustling streets, I stepped beyond my years, balancing the roles of student, sister, and surrogate mother with a maturity that belied my tender age.

The absence of maternal warmth turned our home into a functional space where I navigated the dual roles of sister and surrogate parent. My culinary endeavors, more about sustenance than finesse, filled the gaps her leaving had created. The sporadic absence of my father, often lost in his vice, acquainted us with the ache of hunger and the profound impact of unexpected kindness, like the nourishment provided by his colleague's generous hands.

Choosing my A-level subjects, I dreamt of a medical future, but life had other plans. A hiccup in my biology practical steered me towards a different calling: teaching. This redirection led me to Kenyatta University, where I embraced the precision and beauty of mathematics, preparing for a career that would span over two decades and touch countless lives through education.

As I adapted to the varied educational landscapes of America, the lessons from my formative years in Kenya stayed a guiding force. I learned that in the grand equation of life, resilience is the constant variable, and adaptability is the key to unlocking new possibilities. In teaching, I found not just a career but a conduit for the values I hold dear, reaffirming that with determination and heart, every dream is within reach, and every aspiration is achievable.

The concept of 'snitching' was redefined in my class, transforming from a negative slang term to an opportunity to teach the importance of standing up for what's right. This was part of a broader curriculum beyond academics, aiming to equip my students with the life skills necessary for success outside the school environment.

The assumption that I had access to unlimited resources simply because I lived in one of the world's wealthiest nations was a myth I could not sustain. The 'GoFundMe’ campaigns, while a testament to our unity, became a wellspring of financial strain, depleting not just my bank account but my emotional reserves. In these moments of quiet desperation, I sought a path to self-sufficiency. It was a search for a way to support not just the needs of others but my aspirations and responsibilities. I longed for a means to contribute without compromising my financial security to find a balance between generosity and self-preservation.

As I took this step into the unknown, the principles of hard work, frugality, and honesty informed my approach. The potential for financial freedom and the chance to effect meaningful change was a compelling call to action. This business venture became a beacon, illuminating the path toward a future where my ambitions and responsibilities could find harmony.

Diving into the complex world of cash value insurance, I wanted to navigate uncharted waters, requiring not just knowledge but a deep understanding of financial literacy. My introduction to this field was transformative, shifting my perspective on wealth and security. As I studied the methods used by the affluent, such as those in Jake Thompson's enlightening work "Money. Wealth. Life Insurance," the strategies of the financially successful became my guiding light.

At my journey's core lies the power of love—a steadfast force that guided, supported, and triumphed. This love, rooted in family, has blossomed into a legacy that colors every facet of my life's canvas. The educational paths of my siblings and, later, my children were paved with this love, affirming my commitment to their futures and honoring the sacrifices of our parents.

Navigating through life, the wisdom of literary icons has been my guiding star. African literary maestros like Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Chinua Achebe, and John Ruganda have infused my worldview with their rich resilience and cultural introspection narratives. More than mere tales, their stories reflect our collective journey through the trials and transitions of post-colonial Africa, offering solace and a powerful reminder of the enduring human spirit.

With optimism, I present this pitch, a beacon to illuminate the way for others on their financial paths. It is my heartfelt invitation to all who wish to rise—to join me in this journey of growth and legacy-building. This is more than a business venture; it is a call to action to embrace the philosophy of never yielding, of lifting oneself and others toward a future of prosperity and security.

In this book, my life has been open, not just to share my journey, but to offer up the lessons that journey has imparted. As you have walked with me through the "DON’T STAY DOWN" pages, you have met the principles that have shaped my path. Here, distilled into clear takeaways, are the seven lessons that stand as pillars of the narrative, meant to inspire and direct you as you forge your path to success.
